Windows movie maker/sound trouble?

I'm having an extreme amount of trouble. I can't get a DAMN video made. I would explain why I'm so frustrated but it wouldn't matter. Anyway, I have the video captured. I recorded the audio. But for some reason the stupid .wav file won't play in windows movie maker. I need to hear the audio at the same time as I watch the video so I can match it up correctly. I have another video editing program but this mentally challenged machine of mine doesn't meet the minimum requirements. Does anyone know why this perfectly fine .wav file won't play in wmm? If not, is there any good/free/easy-to-use video editing program that will run on a computer that isn't lightning fast? Thanks.
