Is it legal for someone to ask you to change your signature?

I think she made a mistake and her asking was probably not "illegal". At least not intentionally so. You made the correct response and the manager was correct in allowing your signature. If he had forced you to change it or not allowed you to use it then it would have been an illegal act.
