Concerned of how Employers really see me?

I live in the state of Virginia and received my felony in Maryland. I've been to the courthouse in MD twice to see about getting my felony expunged and both times I was told they don't expunged felonies in MD. I don't understand that. They do in Virginia or am I asking the wrong question? I don't want to continue to have people judging my job capabilities over something that happened 13 years ago.
